Welcome Quiz

09/04/2021 14:31

The first quiz of the student chapter took place remotely on April 7th, bringing questions about fundamental topics related to optics. Participants had to answer 15 questions that discussed the following issues: geometric optics, mirrors, lenses, optic fiber and the human eye.

It was a close contest, with the second place being disputed by 03 participants who had tied results at the end of the competition. The sudden death was also not easy. 08 rounds were made with the same topics discussed previously. We had a total of 07 members participating in the event, which made the event fun, dynamic and raised relevant issues from different perspectives to be explained. Below, the final score of our dear participating members:
Tiago de Bortoli
Filipe Broetto
3º Eduardo César
Maryah Elisa
Filipe Veras

We thank all the participants, and see you on the next challenge!

Photonics in Agriculture and Atmospheric Measurements – Podcast Focalizando Ep. 9

09/04/2021 14:24

In partnership with the SPIE Student Chapter Recife, owner of Podcast “Focalizando”, the professor D.Eng. Estiven Sánchez, former member of SPIE Student Chapter UFSC, were invited to talk about his research at the Universidad del Valle, in Colombia.

Focalizando is a Podcast whose goal is to bring photonics and optics related themes with a funny and easy-to-learn approach.

They talked about the laboratories LinFA (Integrated Laboratory of Bioinformatics and Intelligent Agriculture) and LAFA (Laboratory of Atmospheric Physics), both part of CIBioFi (Center for Research and Information in Bioinformatics and Photonics) which is located at Universidad del Valle, Cali, in Colombia. Estiven explained to them about relevant applications of photonics in agriculture and in atmospheric measurements.

The first meeting of Chapter SPIE / OSA 2021

09/04/2021 14:03

The first meeting of the SPIE / OSA Chapter took place on March 17th, 2021.

The first meeting occurred on March 17th, online, where current members and prospect members were presented to the new presidents of OSA and SPIE Chapters.

Below, the content of the meeting:

Presentation of the new presidents of the chapter SPIE / OSA, the members:
• Tainara Pedrosa de Lima as president OSA and Vice SPIE
• Vinícius Conti da Costa as president of SPIE and Vice OSA

What is SPIE / OSA
SPIE an international optical society founded in 1955, whose mission is to establish partnerships between researchers, companies and educational institutions to encourage research and technological development related to light.
And we explain that OSA is an optical society founded in 1916 and has the mission to promote the generation, application and archiving of knowledge in optics and photonics and to disseminate this knowledge throughout the world.

Advantages of being a member
We invite everyone who is not yet a member of the chapter to become a member and contribute to spreading research in optics. And we took the opportunity to punctuate the advantages of being a member.
1. Access to a community of researchers around the world;
2. Access to a collection of more than 700 thousand articles and books;
3. Subscription to a magazine of the SPIE or OSA group;
4. International events;
5. Internal events organized by the Chapter;
6. Access to events with awards;
7. Acquire new knowledge of optics and photonics;
8. Be part of a society that wants to spread knowledge;
9. Participate effectively in organizing events.
