International Day of Light 2022
Publicado em 25/04/2022 às 11:11The International Day of Light, 16 May, is a global initiative that provides an annual focal point for the continued appreciation of light and the role it plays in science, culture and art, education, and sustainable development, and in fields as diverse as medicine, communications, and energy.
The broad theme of light will allow many different sectors of society worldwide to participate in activities that demonstrates how science, technology, art and culture can help achieve the goals of UNESCO – education, equality, and peace.
This year, we are especially lucky that the International Day of Light coincides with a total lunar eclipse or “blood moon.” Specifically, on the evening of 15-16th May, many parts of the world, especially regions of North and South America, Africa & Western Europe will witness a total lunar eclipse. In fact, the total lunar eclipse will also be preceded by a partial solar eclipse on the 30th of April visible from parts of South America. Eclipses are great opportunities to jointly celebrate the significance of light and light-based technologies in astronomy and optics, and to promote events and activities within communities, schools and other institutions.
